BEST Cleaning Helps: Organization & Efficiency

Keeping a manageable living space contributes to basic happy living. Chaos invites stress and wasted time. Taking the time to create routines and rhythms in your home promises to improve your everyday by freeing up your time for more of what you want to do. One of the best resources available is the book Hum of the Home. This compilation of thoughtful ideas curated from decades of keeping a home, raising children and hospitality simplifies the everyday.

Focusing on the daily, weekly and seasonal maintenance of your living space allows you to respond easily to daily needs, frees up space being taken up by unused items and ultimately, clean spaces protect you from disease. The big idea behind daily and weekly routines, purging and seasonal cleaning is to create a liveable space that is relatively simple to maintain. Routines and rhythms allow you to sort out your priorities and create a customized system. Be intentional.

This book can be used for individual use or for a women’s event or weekend. Girlfriend groups have also gathered to read the four sections in this book together, process the material personally and try some of the new recipes. The four sections of Hum of the Home include:

  • A Healthy YOU
  • Cleaning – Home Management
  • Food – Kitchen & Cooking
  • Hospitality

Some of the best ideas can also be found on this blog and on the Embrace Your Everyday podcast.

When considering all the work that needs to be done to maintain your living space, stop and consider these ideas. Determine what works for you. Customize your patterns. Identify your schedule. Modify your routines.

Some of us love the process of cleaning just as much as we enjoy the results. Others struggle with the patterns necessary to maintain their living space. Let’s be honest, maintaining our home is just hard work. When we are in the grind and feel like maids while doing all of the house jobs, pause. Remember the verse in Romans 12 that encourages us to serve our family and those who enter our home as we would serve the Lord. Work enthusiastically with our minds toward honoring God.

When considering all the work that needs to be done to maintain your living space, stop and consider these ideas. Whether you live alone, with a spouse or a family these ideas can make your everyday easier.

Determine what works for you.

Customize your patterns.

Identify your schedule.

Modify your routines.

“Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.” Romans 12:11 NLT

When I read Proverbs 31: 27 “She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness,” I am reminded of my desire to maintain and order with the space that is my responsibility. While it may be a small space of a sizable area, it is mine to maintain.
